Empowering Rural Women in Sabah’s Green Transition

This video highlights the stories of Tesiah Sadampal and Hastey Raimon, two young women from Kg Pinipi and Kg Masaum in rural Sabah who are part of a growing movement of women shaping a more sustainable future for their communities.

Produced in conjunction with International Women’s Day 2025, the video spotlights how entrepreneurship, community leadership, and local innovation can support rural women to take ownership of their role in the green transition. Through their work and aspirations, Tesiah, Hastey, and their peers represent a new generation of women building resilience, income opportunities, and confidence on their own terms.

The project forms part of the Green and Resilient Recovery (GRR) Local Action Grant, implemented by six local grantees, including Good Shepherd Services, with support from UNDP Malaysia and funding from the Ministry of Finance Malaysia.

This work is part of a wider series of stories produced for UNDP Malaysia, covering community-led sustainability and renewable energy initiatives across rural Malaysia. Other projects documented include the Ulu Papar GRR renewable energy project in Sabah, as well as SMART Solar Dryer initiatives supporting rural communities in Pahang, Sarawak, and Sabah.
