Program SINAR YSD: Pathways to Prevention, Teenage Pregnancy in Sabah

This documentary was produced for Program Sokongan Inklusif Autisme, Remaja, dan Komuniti Rentan (SINAR) YSD, a 9-month collaboration between Good Shepherd Services (GSS) and Yayasan Sime Darby (YSD), supported under Belanjawan 2025 Malaysia Madani.

The documentary continues the conversation sparked by the launch of the Coffee Table Book, “Before 19: Pathways to Prevention, Teenage Pregnancy in Sabah.” It shines a light on teenage pregnancy in Sabah, a subject often left unspoken within families, schools, and communities.

Through interviews with the project team, expert perspectives, testimonies from parents and children, and deeply personal stories from the girls themselves, the documentary explores how prevention requires more than awareness. It requires presence, trust, education, counselling, case management, and community support.

The film highlights how SINAR challenges stigma and silence by guiding young people to make informed choices, while supporting parents with the knowledge and tools needed to protect and empower their children. At its heart, the documentary is a reminder that preventing unplanned teenage pregnancies is a shared responsibility, and that hope grows stronger when communities choose to walk together.

It truly takes a whole village to raise a child.
