Sabah RE2: Powering a More Equitable Future

As Communications Lead for Sabah RE2, I helped tell the story of a future where every Sabahan, regardless of where they live, has access to reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy.

Working at the intersection of climate action, social justice, and community development, I developed the brand and communication strategy for a renewable energy roadmap designed to support energy equity, dignified livelihoods, and the wellbeing of rural communities across Sabah. My role was to transform complex policy and energy discussions into stories that people could connect with—stories about opportunity, resilience, and the right to a better quality of life.

A key part of this work was producing Power to the People, a documentary series created alongside community filmmakers that brought rural voices to the forefront. Through the lived experiences of communities navigating energy challenges, the series highlighted both the realities of energy inequality and the possibilities that emerge when people are empowered to shape their own energy future.

The project's communication work was featured at COP26 and COP27, contributing local perspectives from Sabah to global conversations on climate justice and the energy transition. Sabah RE2 and Power to the People were also presented at the Klang River Festival 2023, demonstrating how storytelling can bridge the gap between policy, people, and meaningful change.

At its heart, this project was about more than renewable energy. It was about ensuring that the transition to a sustainable future leaves no community behind.
